According to Professor Henrik Örnebring, the academia has its eye increasingly in Europe and the United States. However, regional conferences should not be thrown aside.
Today when the academia is getting more and more international, regional conferences still have their value. Henrik Örnebring, President of Swedish Association for Media and Communication Studies, shared his insights on Nordic conferences on media communication research.
According to Örnebring, Nordic countries despite their differences still share similar context such as the strong public service and welfare state. In other international conferences, Örnebring sometimes finds it difficult to explain the uniqueness of the Nordic context to other.
“Here it is more obvious that we share some kind of basic cultural and political history which, I think, makes interesting and focused discussions“, Örnebring says.
Henrik Örnebring together with his colleagues will host the next NordMedia conference in Malmö, Sweden in 2019.
